"A Full-Time Program"
LAAFA's intensive Full-time curriculum is inspired by the historic tradition of apprenticeship training. This distinguished multi-year diploma program offers not only classical art training, but systematically instills the values and disciplines required to turn talent into mastery and successful careers. In addition to the LAAFA core studio curriculum, our students have the option to take additional Art History courses as well General Education courses in order to earn a BFA degree in Painting.
How will I grow as an artist at LAAFA?
The heart of achieving mastery at LAAFA comes from making the program a challenging, yet exciting experience. We are dedicated to unmatched one-on-one training of the individual student; whether they are a passionate newcomer, fulfilling an artistic dream, or a seasoned professional perfecting classic skills and exploring new visions. This program's level of intense study will accelerate your artistic development by forcing you to truly and accurately represent what you see. The conceptual ideas expressed in our program will assist in developing your eye for solid design and composition in your work. This program will be vital in developing a keen sense of quality artwork and in showing you how to achieve it in your work!
What is the program's focus?
The LAAFA core curriculum uniquely combines techniques developed by:
- European 19th Century Ateliers and Masters
- U.S. 20th Century Figurative Masters & Illustrators
These schools of study are sometimes seen at odds with each other. However, when studied within the LAAFA curriculum, they dramatically enhance the student's artistic appreciation and forms of expression. Our program is designed to create an artist who is prepared to take the skills learned into any avenue of the art community, whether it is Fine Art, Illustration, or Entertainment.
Students work to achieve mastery of the classic fundamentals, while adding the vital, often missing sensibilities and skills which are highly desired in the illustration and entertainment arts communities.
What is the end result?
The end goal is to explore the ideas of creating an accurate representational impression of the given subject while maintaining the expressive conceptual design aspects of a narrative piece, thus creating an artist who is well equipped to face the art world of the 21st Century! Students will leave after three years of study with the skills necessary to alter the landscape of artistic expression in today's art world.
