Accepting Application for 2015

 

We are excited to offer students the opportunity to apply for our 3-Year Entertainment Art and Fine Art Degree and Certificate Programs!  For those unable to commit to 3 years of study, we offer shorter Intensive Art Tracks in our Continuing Educational Program.  Here is an outline of all our programs:

SPRING 2015

ADMISSIONS

LAAFA has a rolling admissions policy.  Applications are accepted until all the spots are full.  The priority dates below will give students the opportunity for scholarships, work study and a smooth transition to LAAFA.  Visit our admission page for US Resident and International students to give you step-by-step instructions on how to apply to each programs. For additional questions, please contact the Director of Admissions.

The priority date for Spring 2015 is January 15, 2014.
The priority date for Fall 2015 is June 15, 2015.

Los Angeles Art Workshops

We are thrilled to offer the best art workshops taught by highly acclaimed local and visiting artists!  Students worldwide can come to LAAFA and learn techniques, receive valuable instruction, feedback and critiques.  Plus, working alongside your favorite artist is priceless.  Please visit the full list of workshops currently available. Fine Art Demonstrations in Los Angeles

We have added additional Complimentary Demonstrations available to the art community! This is a great way to learn the different methods and techniques that an instructor will teach you during his class.  Students will have the opportunity to enroll in the class after the demonstration.

Accepting Fine & Entertainment Art Applications | Fall 2013

The Los Angeles Academy of Figurative Art (LAAFA) is accepting applications for our Fall full-time degree and atelier programs.  LAAFA is considered a premier choice for students wanting an intensive art program that provides the necessary foundation skills allowing our students to apply these fundamentals to a career in the fine art or entertainment art industry.

Key components of our admissions process:

1.     Apply to the full-time program.

2.    Follow all the Admission Requirements.
2A.  International Students.

3.   Portfolio pieces including the required drawing need to be sent in JPEG format (each image approximately 1280 x 800).
A.  Create a zip folder with your first initial and full last name.
B.  Email to the Admissions Department.

4.  Tuition payments and Financial Aid options.

5.  Once we have received a students’ completed application, it will take approximately 10 to 14-days for a reply.

6.  If accepted into our program, students are eligible to apply for our scholarship program.

LAAFA operates on a rolling admissions basis. Prospective students are reviewed on a first-come, first-served basis for the next available starting quarter.  LAAFA only accepts a small number of students to the program each year.   We hope you will consider LAAFA as the start of your artistic journey.  To make an appointment to tour the campus, please contact our Director of Admissions.

The Los Angeles Academy of Figurative Art would like to treat you to 4 marvelous open house art demonstrations.  Choose from our Van Nuys or Santa Monica locations.  Each demonstration is a great way to find out about the instructor and the methods and techniques they use to teach their classes.  We hope you will join us for the day.

LAAFA Open House | Art Classes & Workshops

Santa Monica Open House

LAAFA’s online art classes are now available for 3D/Ecorche 10-week self-study or critique by Rey Bustos, Drawing the Portrait in Charcoal Full Demo or 9-week critique class by Nathan Fowkes.  Limited space!

Online “Drawing the Portrait in Charcoal” course by Nathan Fowkes

We are thrilled to announce the release of our latest online course with Nathan Fowkes, “Drawing the Portrait in Charcoal”, now open for registration, starting January 21, 2013.  Space is limited!

This online course is a serious exploration of drawing the portrait from life in charcoal. Over the course of the class, Nathan will provide each student with the necessary understanding and experience to draw the human head with authority.  Watch the preview video and learn more here.

 

Online “3D Anatomy/Ecorché” course by Rey Bustos

A fabulous online course, Rey Bustos’ “3D Anatomy/Ecorché” starting January 28, 2013 is also open for registration for critique and self-study courses. Space is limited!

If you are a fan of Rey Bustos, you must experience him in a classroom setting with students present.  The interaction between Rey and his students adds another dimension to his teaching since the questions posed by the students and the energy of the classroom environment lead Rey to veer off to lecture on topics that wouldn’t normally be covered if he was lecturing to a camera.  Watch the preview video and learn more here.

For those who are unable to commit to our 8 or 10-week classes or who would like to experience a new instructor, we offer reserved  drop-in classes at the Van Nuys and Santa Monica locations. Students will need to call us directly at 818-708-9232 24-hours in advance of the class to reserve a spot. Only select classes and limited spots are available for drop-in day-rates starting from $65.00.

Current full-time and extension students are welcome to enter the  competition to receive a Contemporary Representational Art Scholarship for the Fall 2012 quarter.  Contemporary Representational Art includes figures, still life, and landscapes. Nathan Fowkes | August 18th

For the Portrait Drawing in Charcoal Workshop, Nathan will present a slideshow that will take you through the principles you need to know to successfully draw a portrait from life.  He will do a full demonstration in charcoal, then turn the time over to you to draw from a live costumed model with him guiding you as your coach.
